SİDE ARCHAIC BURG

It is out-of reach to Çolaklı 10 kilometers and it locates in Side city state, which attached to Manvagat district. It is supposed that Side was founded before VII century B.C. Within the Anotalian dates , it experiences the same stages like other Pamphylia burgs. The Greeks came to Side during the VII centuries of migration B.C. Acording to the epitaphs , they spoke a language which is peculiar to this archaic burg to III. Century B.C. This language is from the Indian-Europe language family even though it is not unraveled.

Side was under the dominion the Lidya in the first half of VI.century B.C. and then the Persian Empire in 546-547 B.C. The burg was developed during the Persian Empire and hold up the Alexander The Great ‘s hands in 334 B.C. After his death , Side was under the dominion of Antigonos ( B.C. 323-304 ) ,Ptolemaios ‘s B.C ( 301-215) and after the 215 B.C. it was under the dominion of Syria Kingdom.Thanks to the the Ptolemaios’s strong arm and commerce fleets of , the burg lived the heyday period in II.century B.C , it also was built as science and culture burg.Then, it was left to dominion of Bergama Kingdom with the Apameia Peace in 188 B.C., it saved its independence in terms of East Pamfilya region , and rised to wealth and affluence thanks to commerce fleet. After 78 B.C ,the burg was under the dominion of Roman Empire dominance , became the commerce center of the area between centuries of II.and  III A.D. Especially, the wealth and heyday period ,which slave commerce was made, was lived. It was a culture and arts centre for II. Century. Even, the king of VII Antiokhos who was the king of Syria Kingdom was educated there, before he became the king. When he became the king ( 138 B.C.) he took the name of  Sidetes. Until this period ,The Side was began to be christened by worshipped so many God , such as, as firstly ,Athena and Apollo, and Afrodit, Ares, Asklepios , Hegeia , Kharitler , Demeter ,Dionisos and Hermes in IV.century. When Side became the Diocese ,it lived its heyday period for two centuries. This development was ended because of tha Arabian attacks between VII. and IX. centuries. During the act of  engraving ,so many traces of a biggest fire and earthquake was lighted on.The burg was left because of tha Arabian attack and natural disasters. At the XII. Century ,the Arabian geographer ,İdrisi, saw this burg as a dead burg and described as Blasted Antalya. According to İdrisi , the community of Side migrated through 1150 and the Side was vacated entirely in XII. Century.

Then, Side was under the dominion of Seljug Empire in 13th century and then Hamitoğulları and Tekelioğulları dominance in 14th century but there was no  settlement during that period to region. During the 15th century, Side was annexed to Turk exactly. But there is no historical artifacts from the Ottoman Empire or the Seljug Empire because they weren’t living in this region. In 1895 , the migration of Greek were settled to that region by founded a village to the edge of this peninsula. The small village, which forms the origin of today’s village, covered the whole region day by day. Also, it took the name of “ Selimiye” , thanks to its special village houses and archaic structure have an interest in an estate for opening of Side to tourism.

 

 

ASPENDOS
After passing the Serik ,which is in Antalya-Alanya land route, and turning to North, the Aspendos way is seen. Its history comes up to 5th century B.C. Its theatre , which was built in 2 th century A.D. , was being used as caravansaray by Seljug Empire and it was renewed in the course of time. It can save its originality until today with its stage. The theatre is for 7000 people by calculating 0.50 meter for one person.Also,its orchestra stage is for 5000 spectator.
 
 
It is used for kind of concerts, festivals and oilwrestling in today. Besides other structures in Aspendos, there also are Agora, Bazilika, Nymphaeum and arched water routes, 15 kilometers length, that creates a spectacular view.
